I have a 4331 with a 1 gig MM SFP in gig 0/0/2 connected to a 3850 c3850-nm-2-10G  1 gig MM SFP module.

no config, on either end but the default.  I get a link light on the 3850 but not on the 4331.

Can you try connecting to the other SFP port and make sure the media type is sfp under the interface?

HTH

The interface  comes up fine.

Router#sho ip int brief
Interface              IP-Address      OK? Method Status                Protocol
GigabitEthernet0/0/0   unassigned      YES unset  up                    up
GigabitEthernet0/0/1   unassigned      YES unset  administratively down down
GigabitEthernet0/0/2   unassigned      YES unset  down                  down
GigabitEthernet0       unassigned      YES unset  administratively down down
Router#
Router#sho run int gig 0/0/0
Building configuration...

Current configuration : 87 bytes
!
interface GigabitEthernet0/0/0
 no ip address
 media-type sfp
 negotiation auto

switch#

....

GigabitEthernet1/1/1   unassigned      YES unset  up                    up

interface GigabitEthernet1/1/1
end

Once I ran the command "service unsupported-transceiver" gig 0/0/2 started working even tho this is a cisco SFP that worked in gig 0/0/0.
