adding subscriber call manager

my customer's call manager is running 3.09. i am trying to add a 2nd call manager which shipped with 3.02 software. can anyone tell me the procedure to use to bring up it up as a subscriber running 3.09? i tried it once and it came up with no call manager service.

load the 3.02 software that was shipped with the 2nd callmanager and set it as a subscriber to the 1st. then upgrade it to 3.09
