Hello,

We have a VPN-3015, can someone tell me where i can find the description of how the Phase 1 and Phase 2 authentications take place and if the id/pswd encryption are the same for both phases?

Thanks in advance.

Ronald.

  • Cisco Employee,

Phase 1 setup the IKE and it uses your vpngroup password as the pre-shared key for encryption. Phase 2 setup the IPSec security association, and it is based on what ever is negotiated on phase 1. See

more explanatory notes on IPSec on:http://www.cisco.com/warp/customer/707/index.shtml#ipsec (Select introduction to IPSec)
