Is cat4006 capable of supporting IRB.Bcoz got conflicting info. on cisco manual.Again wats the purposes for which the two external routed GBIC ports can be used.Tanx

1. Where is the conflicting information you are referring to ?
2. THe external interfaces could be used to connect to a gig capable router supporting a wan.

Hi,
Can you elaborate on the uses of the 2 GBIC uplink ports which are on the Supervisor module?
I have a dumb question, which I haven't found the answer for yet: If we are not using fiber, where is the connection to the PIX (which connects to our outside router)? I understand the uses of the console and management ports. We currently have 2 48-port switching modules and have ordered 3 more. Are these modules connected as a hub: port 1 to port 48 of the one above?

4006 with L3 module does support IRB.

The above document explains the architecture and shows some sample config.
For IRB, you would configure bridge-group under the port-channel interface and external gig sub-interface and use BVI to route between various bridge groups upto 16.
