Administrative Sessions limited

For some reason, the number of sessions that can be in the Unity admin web page is limited and we can't find out where to change it. Can anyone point me in the right direction to increase the number of administrators?

Sean Eckton
BYU

The number of SA sessions is limited to 5 and the AA sessions are limited to 20. We did this to make sure the Unity server wasn't swamped with web update requests which cannot be "throttled"... the IIS service can't be reasoned with, it will chew the CPU as hard and as often as it wants to with no regard for what else is going on with the server. To mitigate this we limited the number of concurrent sessions that can be active at any time.

The number of AA sessions can be adjusted (so long as you know what that means in the way of possible performance hits). The AA sessions are doing a lot less and don't do ugly searches (which are big hits). You can use the AdvancedSettings tool on AnswerMonkey to do this (it makes the registry edit necessary for you).

The number of SA sessions are not easily adjustable without code changes and we really, really don't reccomend doing that. Do you really have a need for more than 5 admins in and working on the system at the same time?

Jeff, I've recently run into this also, after walking up to a system that as far as I know has had no SA sessions running for a day or two. How/where are these sessions tracked, and is there a way to log SA users out from somewhere? Thanks

These are tracked as session variables on the web server and there are some scenarios where it'll not catch the fact that the user has closed a session. If you just close IE and don't use the "logout" link to kill the session it's possible to "burn" a session.

You can bounce the WWW service without having to take Unity down to clear these if you get into a jam.

In later builds of 3.0 and in 3.1(1) and later you can see how many sessions we think there are open but there's currently no way to manually kill any of them. If you just navigate to "http://UnityServerName/web" it'll take you to an admin page that indcludes a link to a "session count" page. That will at least tell you how many sessions the web server is reporting are currently active.
