Is there a disadvantage of assigning a 30 bit mask to an ATM interface which is part of a ATM backbone using Multipoint? With a hub and spoke design serial links are commonly assigned 30 bit masks to conserve IP addesses and reduce routing table. Is true in designing an ATM backbone too?

why not !!! It should be fine... Not aware of any atm specific issues... just treat that like any other wan connection.

I would base the mask on the number of end points on that multipoint. A /30 mask allows for only two. You may very well need more I would think.
