Multiple IF's or Sub-interfaces?

PETER COUGHLIN

I have a client who has a 17XX with a single serial and a single enet IF. The serial is a frame connection through a CSU and the enet provides LAN access. They would like to add a cable broadband modem to the mix, which presents an enet interface.

Can I set up the 17XX for sub-interfaces to route Internet traffic to the modem while keeping the frame port? Or, is there a better way to do it?

Thinks in Advance.

not sure why you think you need sub-interface.

You want to use the cable modem for internet traffic and the FR serial interface for private traffic.

Then just configure routes such that private traffic is sent of the FR interface and a default that points to the modem back on the ethernet interface.

No need for sub-interface.
