I have a Cisco 806 router, it seems to take a while to resolve ARP's.
When I initially ping a new device a may get a single ping time-out. If I look at the debug info on the Router I notice that I get an 'Encapsulation Failed' error for the first ping then it seems to do fine after that.
Is this just because the IP isn't in the ARP table and if so should it take so long to Add it?
Thanks for the help!

The "encapsulation failed" message is because the MAC address is not in the ARP table. The first ping message will generally fail due to the time to resolve the address. The default timeout is 2 seconds.

Any idea why this seems to take so long on a Cisco? My SonicWalls don't seem to have this problem.
Thanks!
