Hi ,

This is just for an explanation . What is the mechanism of attributing VLAN ( I Know that the phones work with a trank ) on the IP phone . How does it know that they must attrib the data vlan on port 1 and voice vlan on port 2

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but it’s all data on the wire. It only turns back into voice at the phone. Perhaps I misunderstand the question.

  • Cisco Employee,

There is a 3 port switch in the back of the phone. When you are using aux vlan the switch in the phone knows to send all of the untag traffic to the pc port and if there is tagged with the voice vlan information it is sent to the phone port. If you are doing aux vlan that information is exchanged via CDP.

Hope this helps,
