Segmenting Network, proper router setup question

A quick and probably easy question but I have a standard class C private network with static IP's(192.168.12.xxx) of which I have a Cisco 3620 router to allow access from outsite sources. What I have is my network has used up my range and I am out of IP's. What I thought I could do is use the router to route IP's. Basically, what I did was add a static route/subnet with the a new IP segment (192.168.50.xxx) to the ethernet port but I still don't have communiction between the machines with different IP ranges. Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks.

You need an interface assigned to the new segment, and this interface will be the default gateway for devices on this leg of the network. In order for the route to mean anything, it has to have an interface to “translate” to the other network. You could also look into a secondary ip address.
