transparent tunneling with VPN Client 3.5.2 and a PIX 506 running 6.1

Unanswered Question

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if it is possible to configure a PIX 500 series running 6.1 to do transparent tunneling over TCP? The VPN client has an option to do TCP transparent tunneling, but I can't figure out how to setup the PIX to handle it (or even if the PIX supports it). Any help would be appreciated.

At this time, this is only available in the vpn concentrators. I haven’t heard of any plans to incorporate it in the PIX or router IOS yet.

I tried to get this working and can't either. One of the replys said the pix can't do the tcp tunnel, what abou the udp tunnel? The clients negoitate a tunnel fine and show connected however no communication flows... What is also confusing is I couldn't get this to connect unless I used ah-esp-md5. I thought we couldn't use a ah protocol when using nat since it changes the headers...

Cisco did a terrible job documenting the fact that this isn't supported...

  • Cisco Employee,

This feature is for the VPN client to VPN 3000 only at the moment. It is being considered as an enhancement on the future releases of PIX code, maybe 6.3.

Contact your local Cisco Account Manager to get a definite ETA.
