OSPF NSSA

Here is the scenario...

R1, R2, R3, R4.

R1 is an ABR to area 0. R1 is also attached to area 1.

R2 is an internal router to area 1

R3 is an ABR to area 1 and area 2. Since area 2 is not

attached directly to area 0, area 1 is a transit area,

and there is a virtual link between R1 and R3.

R4 is an internal router to area 2

OSPF has synchornised, all routes are available every

where.

Now area 2 should not get any external route. So area

2 was configured as a stub area. Now the requirement

is, that the ethernet of R4 (x.x.x.x) should be

advertised into OSPF without using network statement.

So I used redistribute command in R4. But since area

2 is a stub area, this is not possible. So inorder to

use redistribute command on R4, area 2 was configured

as NSSA.

R4 gives this route to R3. R3 has this route as ON2.

Now this route should have been converted as type 5

LSA and should appear in R2 and R1. But the route

never appears even in database of R2 and R1.

Looks like, NSSA routes are not converted into Type 5

lsas and exchanged to routers which are in a transit

area.

Please input your valuable comments!

Hello Shanky.

You have to configure "area 2 nssa" in router R3 also.

Hope this helps.

Rgds.

Hi Nuno,

Well...if R3 has the route as ON2 that definitely means that, R3 is configured as NSSA.

The problem i m facing here is, R3 is not sending this lsa into the transit area.
