In Cisco IOS DHCP server configuration, I can configure more than one default router/gateway for host. What is the use of this or how exactly is it work?

Hi,

the possibility to configure more than one default-gateway is used, when the DHCP clients have

the "dead gateway detection" mechanism RFC 816 enabled.This mechanism can only work if the clients are able to support more than one gateway. So, the clients are able to detect if the first default-gateway becomes unavailable and can then switch over to the second one.
