How do I configure a Cisco Router to do Dial-backup with an IBM 2210 Router at the other end?

We have a network of IBM routers linked via Frame Relay in a Hub/Spoke scenario. The branch routers dial into the central site router via ISDN if the primary frame relay link goes down.

We are now installing new Cisco routers for new branches and have successfully connected to the main IBM router via frame relay.

However, we could not match the IBM configuration with the Cisco configuration because the ISDN interface at the IBM Router does not have an IP address.

Is it possible for the Cisco backup router to be configured in a way that it shall take it's IP address from the existing frame relay interface?

You can use "ip unnumbered" to cause

one interface to use (borrow) the IP

address of another. Note that this

is a bit dangerous, in that if your FR

interface goes down that IP address

will not be useable. For this reason

it's normally suggested to use a loopback

interface (virtual, never goes down) as

the source of an IP address (ip

unnumbered loop 0).
