DHCP on Aironet 1200

Hi,

I refer to the cisco aironet 1200 specifications. What do you mean by DHCP support under the automatic configuration?

Does it mean that it supports DHCP request and forwards to the DHCP server? Or it dishes out it's own IP address and acts as a mini-DHCP server?

It means that when you connect the AP up to your network and power it on, it will try and obtain an IP address automatically via DHCP - You would then use the IP Setup Utility to discover the IP address that the unit has obtained.

Just trying to clarify more..AP1200 can't work has a dhcp server, it will only work as a dhcp client..

Yep, that's correct. Also, if it can't make contact with a DHCP server when you first turn it on, it will assume it's default address.

Thank you for the replies

The Aironet 1200 does not act as a mini-DHCP server. It only forwards request from the client. That is what is meant by DHCP support.

Then is there something special that needs to be done for the Client cards to receive DHCP? The AP gets a DHCP address but none of the Clients do. (Aironet 350 PC Cards)

Also can the Clients get DHCP through the AP even if the AP has a Static IP address?

Just need to select "ip address thru dhcp" OR "Obtain ip address automatically" under TCP/IP properties for wireless client adaptor to get ip address via dhcp.

YES, client can also get ip address thru dhcp even if AP hasstatic ip address.

It means it can act as a dhcp client..
