Return receipts aren't voice mails, so they're not played back. The system, however, treats it like a voice mail. Use the Advanced Settings Tool to change the "Exclude return receipts from voice mail stack" as needed.

Adam, thanks for the information. So what return receipts do is that when

a unity user leaves a message for an external user, and the external user

reads the message, the unity user receives a return receipt. But the message

is not attached.Is this right?

Well, there's a problem with this. Unity users can't leave messages with external users using the phone. You can only send subscriber to subscriber messages over the phone. Sending messages to external users has to be done in Outlook. At that level, Unity actually has nothing to do with return receipts. A user composes an email, clicks the Request Receipt button, and sends the email. When it's read, the receipt comes back.

At this point, with that registry key set to 0 (the default), Unity will treat the return receipt as though it were a voice mail, but it won't any play messages. In fact, I've seen cases where a return receipt has prevented unity from playing real voice mails. If the registry key is set to 1, Unity ignores the return receipt.
