Delay in outgoing calls with CallManager 3.1(3a)

This is a very sporadic problem.Sometimes after you dial the number there is a long delay before the call is setup and we hear the dial tone dialing digits.

The gateway is a 6608 T1 PRI gateway running the latest load.

I assume the call is made from an IP phone? Do you hear tones as the keys are pressed on the phone and then after the delay you hear more tones. Or do you

hear nothing until after the delay?

Is the PRI gateway connected directly to the PSTN or is there an intermediary device?

Without alot of information I'll take this stab at what's happening...

It seems that the IP leg of the call between the IP phone and the 6608 is set up and somewhere downstream of the 6608 there is an analog connection that is sending signalling that you hear in the media stream. I believe this because on IP and digital parts of the call digits are sent as packets or signal bits. It's only on analog circuits where actual tones are sent inband in the voice stream.

One thing to check are your Route Patterns on the Call Manager. If your route patterns are too generic, it will take the Call Manager a couple seconds (a parameter you can set) to decide if you a done entering digits. Then the call goes to the gateway.

For example, a Route Pattern of "9.!" would take much longer to route than two Route Patterns like "9.1XXXXXXXXXX" and "9.XXXXXXX".

We had a similar problem with a customer, 3 call on 4 was not terminating.

We upgrade to 3.1.3a spF , a new load for 6608 and phone have solve the problem !

Did you install spF ?

This could also be a CM programming issue. Are you using a 9.@ dial pattern? If you are, apply the 7-digit route filter to it. That way, all your 7 digit calls aren't waiting for a local area code before outpulsing. The 7 digit filter should be pre-built in CM 3.1(3a). If it's not, just create a route filter and tell it that LOCAL AREA CODE DOES NOT EXIST. Hope this applies to your situation somehow.

We have currently applied SP-F on the CCM and we are monitoring.It has

not occured so far but as this is sporadic,we need to wait for some more

time.If it re-occurs we will try changing route patterns.
