From the console of the IDS, I am not able to ping the IP address I assign to the management interface.
Several times I attempted to do the "sysconfig-sensor" command and rebooted the IDS appliance.
Have I corrupted my IDS? I only did some modifications on the "/etc/hosts" file.

Manual Modifications to the /etc/hosts file are not supported and in many cases they will prevent sysconfig-sensor from functioning properly.
Sysconfig-sensor expects the /etc/hosts and other system files to have a specific format. If that format is changed (by manual editing of the files) then sysconfig-sensor may not be able to make the needed modifications.
I recommend re-imaging from the CD. If you need to make manual modifications to the /etc/hosts file then make them after sysconfig-sensor has been completed.
