Why can't I assign encapsulation to e0.1 on a Cisco 2503 router? I have loaded 12.2.11T ip plus IOS. this is later than the recommended 13.1.3T in the available documentation.

i think dot1q encapsulation works only for FastEthernet interfaces

rgds,

Matt, they allowed encapsulation on the ethernet ports on a 2611 (these are not fast ethernet). THanks for answering though.

Hi,

If memory serves me correcltly the actual dot1q encaps is done in H/W and thus dependant on chipsets present.

I know the following devices support it plus the new RSP16:

Cisco 1710, Cisco 1751, 2600 series, 3600 series,Cisco 4000-M series (Cisco 4000-M, 4500-M, 4700-M), Cisco 7200 series ,RSP1Cisco 7505, RSP2 on7507 and 7513.
