How 7500 handle the packet if the pps exceeds the VIP switching througput?

For example, VIP4-50 can switch 100k pps, RSP4 and dcef is used. Then, RSP offloads the switching process to the VIP4-50.


If the swithcing rate of that VIP4-50 exceeds 100kpps, will RSP4 just load share the exceeded packets. Say, 200kpps input rate is applied on the VIP4-50. Will the VIP4-50 handle 100kpps and the RSP4 handle the exceeded 100kpps?

No. If the amount of packets exceeds the switching capacity of the VIP, buffering will start and eventually packet drops.
