If I want to change the management vlan on a catalyst 3550 from vlan 1 to some other vlan, is it simply enough to shut down vlan 1 and create a new vlan, for example vlan 20, and assign it an ip address? Or do I need to configure something else? If so, what and where....?
Thanks! Meg

Yes..That should do it. No other configuration is neccessary

Thanks for the reply! So what happens if I configure 5 vlan interfaces and have int vlan 1 in shutdown. Which one is then the management vlan?

Don't forget that there are lots of management traffic that travels only on VLAN1 like CDP, STP etc. My personal experience always have been using VLAN1 as management and everything else in other VLANs.
