hai experts,

I have some problems. Before going to the problem let me narrate my n/w connectivity.

I have a 6506 core switch in that I have connected 3500 series gibic port switches. From this I have connected all my access switches. One of my access switch is connected to my server farm. Now let me come to the problem.

Recently I have purchased server which is having 1000 MBPS NIC card.

Now my ? is how I will provide 1000 MBPS connectivity to my server through my present network components.?

My present n/w design is as follows:

6506 CORE -----3508 DISTRIBUTION -----3524 ACCESS---------SERVERFARM

Provided you have a empty GBIC slot on your 3524 (and it is close enough) you can use a 1000BaseT GBIC.

See this link:

Hope it helps

Hi charlie,

Thankx for ur reply, but how can i connect GBIC to my server..

Thanks

Assuming your server NIC is a copper gig NIC, you can use a regular straight through cable to connect to the copper GBIC on the switch

If the NIC is GBIC/fiber based, use similar GBICs on either end and connect using a fiber cable
