Upgrading the existing network

Hi,

I am upgrading the existing layer 2 switched (HP) network. I want to use two CAT 6506 switches for the core/distribution layer and uplinking these core switches to HP layer 2 switches in the closets by gigabit fiber link. There are 22 switches in the closets. Can someone suggest what should be the CAT 6506 specifications and what sort of module do I need for these switches. How can I provide gigabit connectivity between access and core/distribution layer. Thanks in anticipation.

Sid

Here are some URL for the cat6k spec and datasheet

There are many types of GBIC modules that you can insert, plus you also have to decide, you do you need redundant supervisor or single supervisor. Generally the GBIC comes with 16 port at the max per module. Also you do need any ethernet module.

You do you need to find out if you need 1000 copper ports or fiber ports

Also you can also look into Cat4500 series switches if you need only simple routing.

hope this helps
