Daisy chaining 3548 GBIC's

I have eight 3548's that I'd like to daisy chan together via the GBIC ports. I'd like to know what is the maximum number of 3548's you can daisy chain together via the GBIC ports. I've been told that two is the max and anything after that causes problems. Is this true? If so, is there a workaround? Thank you.

are you using the Cisco Gigastack ? or 5484s?

I'd be reluctant to have that many ports in one vlan.

I'm using WS-3548-EN-XL switches with two GBIC ports.

right, but what kind of gbics 5484s? or the giga stack (cisco proprietary)

you can daisy chain the cisco proprietary all over the place, but it requires special cables.

with the 5484's i would suggest a "core" switch like a 3508, and run each connected switch off that. be careful about setting up STP.

I don't know about a maximum, in theory or otherwise, but I've got a LAN running nicely with 6 3548 via GBICs.. Of course not all the ports are in use, but had around 200 nodes running fine at one point.

The first and last 3548 are connected to the core 6509.

Correct.

But what about the STP network diameter?

If you daisy-chain 9x 3500XL what will be the network diameter of the whole network? The maximum value recommended is 7.
