Hi All,

I have case where on inbound interface I have to decide based on the source,

Which path the packet willl takes.

Which technique is less CPU intensive, PBR or VRF selection?

Both will configure with very basic statements.

The answer to this question will have a lot to do with what platform you are doing this on. For example a Cat6 is capable of HW/switching of PBR traffic for match-ip-address and set next-hop only.. so if you are using any other set or match statements it would be done in the SW forwarding path and thus much slower and more intensive on the CPU. If both platforms you are putting this on support in HW or CEF forwarding paths then I would say that either would be hard on the CPU.

Hope this helps you,

Thanks for your answer.

I'll use these features in 7500 and GSR Routers.

The statements will be as you described, what can you tell me about

How these platforms will act with the technologies ?

I didn’t fully understand the last line you wrote. Can you point

Me to the correct link in the CCO.

Thanks again for your help.
