Hi,

Last Friday in our network the many input errors and CRC errors appeared on certain uplinks betwwen the access switches Catalyst 2950 and the backbone Catalyst 4006. All uplinks are Gigabit Ethernet port on trunk mode. I verified the Syslog messages on our syslog server, no input errors messages are found.

Could the errors on the Gigabit Ethernet port be detected by the Cisco switches ?

Thanks.

Hi Jessie,

Please ensure that you have syslog enabled on the switches. The commands that are to be enabled are:

set logging server

set logging server severity 7 (7 is for debugging)

Also make sure that the syslog file location is defined on the Syslog server. The configuration depends upon the server that you are using. If it is CiscoWorks 2000 on Windows NT then

RME-->Administration-->Syslog Analysis-->>Change Storage Options

Message Source: :\CSCOpx\log\syslog.log

You could also do a 'show log' on the switch and also check the syslog file after generating messages.

If this doesn't work try rebooting the syslog server. That should work.
