connecting a cable modem to Cisco 1720

I connect cisco 1720 router to my cable modem (motorolla), but the network kinda dies. I mean if I connect a Linksys router in place of cisco 1720, the network works fine, i get all the bandwith but with Cisco network becomes really slow. Is their anything i need to do on my cisco router to work with my cable modem or this is not gonna work'

Sounds like there could be a speed/duplex mismatch between router and the modem. Are there incrementing FCS errors? Try hardsetting the interface to the modem to 10/half. Also make sure the speed/duplex match on your PC and the other router interface..
