We have backup exec (with the SQL and Exchange Agents) for our Unity server. Trying to do a full backup and getting a lot of messages stating "Directory not found" All pointing to unity-specific type things...not our user mailboxes.

examples:

Directory not found. Can not backup directory ?Example Administrator [eadministrator3ae5a68a] and its subdirectories.

Directory not found. Can not backup directory ?Example Subscriber [esubscriber3ae5a68a] and its subdirectories.

Directory not found. Can not backup directory ?System Attendant [servers/cn=lmnop-unity/cn=microsoft system attendant]?Common Views and its subdirectories.

Seems like maybe Unity wasn't properly set up initially? Any ideas?

Thanks..

  • Cisco Employee,

Exchange 5.5 or 2000? Which version of Unity are we talking about here? Has anyone ever logged into those mailboxes via outlook or over the telephone (the system attendant isn't our box but the two example accounts are).

Exchange 5.5/ Unity 3.1(4). / Backup Exec 8.6

Sorry ...should have posted that.

I doubt anyone has logged into those mailboxes in any way.

Actually, the following Backup Exec messages are interesting too. Internet voice connector is related to AMIS as I recall.

Directory not found. Can not backup directory ?Internet Voice Connector (LMNOP-UNITY) [connections/cn=internet voice connector (LMNOP-unity)]?MTS-OUT and its subdirectories.

Directory not found. Can not backup directory ?Internet Voice Connector (LMNOP-UNITY) [connections/cn=internet voice connector (LMNOP-unity)]?Spooler Queue and its subdirectories.

Directory not found. Can not backup directory ?Internet Voice Connector (LMNOP-UNITY) [connections/cn=internet voice connector (LMNOP-unity)]?Top of Personal Folders and its subdirectories.

  • Cisco Employee,

Probably something that should be taken up with the BackupExec folks... those look like classic "file in use" type errors - if it can't handle files currently open and in use that's not something we can do anything about on our end of the pond... the IVC isn't doing anything especially evil on those directories that would cause the backup process to cough up a hairball...

So NO ONE is having problems with Backup Exec 8.6 on unity with Exchange 5.5 on the unity box?

The problem, according to Veritas is that you can not attempt to back up the System Attendant and "connector" type "mailboxes".

See

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/238101.htm

In other words, don't attempt to back up the "Internet Voice Connector" mailbox or the "System Attendant" mailbox and you won't get an error.

The other problems I was having with the Example Admin and Subscriber mailbox were because those mailboxes were "orphaned" by a previous admin. I had to associate them to a user temporarily and delete the mailboxes.
