What you have to do is open the file in the PC you are using to connect the router via console. Open the file and copy the configuration. Go into the router via console and erase the configuration with a "write erase" command and then go into global configuration and paste the correct configuration. To paste it, if you are using hyperterminal, in edit there is the option paste to host. Use that one.

You can use the "write erase" command for any IOS. But a substitute will be a "erase start". In the XP you should have the hyperterminal. It is in programs, accesories, communications.

Has anyone tried doing this with the 'standard' FTP commands, writing the configs to an FTP server? I have done this with a number of 7200 and 2600 series routers and that works well, but can't get the FTP to work with the older 2500's.

hello,

You dont need a floppy here.

Console into the 2500 from which you want to copy the configs. On hyperterminal Give a Capture Text and save the file into a folder in the PC . Capture Text can be seen on Transfer menu item on Hyper terminal.

Give a Show running-config command and capture the running config. ( if you want the startup-config , give a show start)

Once you finish viewing the config, Give an End Capture from the same menu.

Once this is done, Console into the target 2500 , erase the configs of 2500 with a "write erase" and go to global config mode, and copy and paste the configs into the console.

Give a "write mem" command, to save the configs.

Hope that helps!
