VPN client through a microsoft proxy server

I'm trying to configure a VPN tunnel via a microsoft proxy server, but have some problems.

The setup is that VPN payload is tunneld over http/80.

I setup a proxy server in front of a firewall that only allows http by the proxy server to the internet.

I configured in the vpnclient.ini file under [main] NetworkProxy=x.x.x.x:80

The VPN client still connects directly to the internet instead of over the proxy client.

What's the problem or how can I configure a VPN client to use a proxy server to send his payload data tunneled via http ?

Cisco's vpn client can tunnel data in udp and tcp encapsulations. Even though you can set it up to encapsulate thru tcp to port 80, this does not make it http traffic. An application level firewall will most likely drop these packets as it is not http traffic. You probably cannot make your setup work without having admin control of the MS proxy server, if it is possible at all.

Thus the only way to let outsourced employees use the VPn client is to let the customer open 2 ports on his firewall and allow the traffic from the users PC --> This is a great impact because these PC's need a static ip address and the customer needs to enable ports udp 500 and ( in my example port tcp 80 ) the payload port.

Is there a workaround for this problem ?

not for ms proxy server 2.0 - it has really no port forwarding features to speak of. it is really outdated. donno if ISA, its replacement, can do that
