EIGRP stub and summary considerations at remote sites.

I have many remote sites in a hub and spoke arrangement. EIGRP is running and I would like to have the simplest routing table on the remote sites as possible and keep the serial links to them as quiet as possible concerning routing changes.

What is the best way to do this? Do I configure each remote site as a stub with auto summary? The remote site router doesn't need the entire routing table, it only needs to know to go up its serial link to route for everything other then its local lan.

You can inject a default route to each stub using a prefix list or distribute list and redistribute command.

On the hub.

ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 null 0

router eigrp 45

redistribute static

default-metric 1544 2000 255 1 1500

distribute-list 1 out

distribute-list 1 out

distribute-list 1 out

..

..

..

..

distribute-list 1 out

access-list 1 permit host 0.0.0.0

X is the interface number and Y is sub interface number (if applicable)

You should, of course, make this a floating static if you already are learning a static from elsewhere (like an internet connection).
