GRE Tunnel

Hi,

I want to explore and impelement the GRE tunnel between two of our offices connected via serial links.Can you please help me out .Provide me some sample configuration.

Are they connected (back to back) via leased line ? then you dont need to use GRE tunnel. If they are connected via leased lines and communication is over the internet, then you need to use GRE tunnel.


create the tunnel interface (interface tunnel 0)


The tunnel interface should be specified with a source address to use, and the destination ip address where the tunnel terminates.


Router 1

int tu 0

tunnel source

tunnel destination


Router 2

int tu 0

tunnel source

tunnel destination


Configure static routes on either routers pointing to tunnel 0.


Hope that helps.. I could not find a sample link specific to your situation, but still the following link explains, the basics of tunnel over a cable (cable modem) link. Check it out.

Dont really see the need for it in your scenario but these links might help.


The first link has got some good config examples. Please note that lots of features are IOS version dependant. Try and use a newer version of IOS if you are using an old version and commands dont work.
