Hi
What is a Firmware ? Is it something similar to IOS in a router ?
How is System firmware different from radio firmware ?
Thanks and regards

Firmware is the program used to run all the hardware functions in this case for the radio
On the client cards you have 3 parts of the software
ACU this is the gui where you configure the card
NDIS this is the driver
Firmware this lives in the flash on the radio and controls the radio and other hardware functions
On the AP there is 2 parts to the software
In VxWorks you have radio firmware once again lives on the flash of the radio and controls the radio functions and system firware eg 12.03T, this controls everything else including the interface to configure the device
In IOS you still have the radio firmware but you also have the IOS version which does the same function as the system firmware in VxWorks.
In all newer versions of ACU (6.0 onwards) the ACU will automatically update the driver and firmware, in versions older than that you need to manually update all 3 parts
On the AP for both VxWorks and IOS the system firmware/IOS version will update the radio firmware for you.
Hope this helps

Hi
Do you mean to say that....the radio firmware takes care of the features required for RF communication.
and the system firmware enables coniguring the AP and even configuring the AP's radio ports....
And I could not understand this particular paragraph of yours...could you kindly help in further clarity on this....
"In all newer versions of ACU (6.0 onwards) the ACU will automatically update the driver and firmware, in versions older than that you need to manually update all 3 parts "
Thanks and regards
