Cisco Inline power vs. 802.3af power

I was wondering what the difference between 802.3af power and Cisco Inline power is? Specifically I am using the mid-span patch panels from Powerdsine and when I connect to an IP Phone I need to use the special dongle and I am wondering what that dongle does to the power from the patch panel so that the IP phone can use it.

Thanks.

Cisco IP Phones currently support only Cisco inline power. When the 802.3af draft becomes a

standard, Cisco IP phones will support both 802.3af inline power and Cisco inline power.
