do vlans block ports 135-139 by default, or do they sutomatically forward packets on those ports?

Thanks.

vlans are purely a layer 2 function, they have no knowledge of TCP/UDP ports (layer 4), hence cannot inspect/influence frames based on netbios ports.

Other features such as ACL'S (access control lists) are used to block tfaffic based on port numbers.

Cheers,
