Folks,

I have a 6500 series switch which does not recognize line cards, it has a older version of SUP. do you think it is the old code causing the problem, or hardware related issue. Many thanks in advance.

Are the modules stuck in an "other" state in the "show module" output because the "show version" looks okay ?

What is the model number of the module the supervisor is not able to recognize ?

Thanks for the responce.

The module numbers are:

6608-t1

6348 inline power

hi, please elaborate further on what you mean when you say the modules are not recognized. I checked the release notes and 6.3(9) supports both those modules and according to the "show version" you posted, the 6348 and 6608-t1 cards are recognized..

thanks.

Thanks for the responce.

All cards have amber lights on them. one 1 card the status light is green but the ports are all amber.

Any help would be apprexciated.

Thanks

A module with amber ports normally means 2 things:

a) ports are inactive

b) ports are errdisabled

Issue a "show port" to determine which state the ports are in.

Next, try the following:

a) clear the config on the module using the "clear config " command.

b) Also check the vlans the ports are assigned to. If the vlan doesn't exist in the vlan database ( check the "show vlan" command " ) then create the vlan using the "set vlan " command.

If the steps i've outlined don't work, paste the "show port " output for us to see.

You need to set the test diagnostics to complete and reload , this may give you a better explanation of why these cards are not recognized and will recognize a hardware issue if it's a card issue , right now your diags are set as minimal which skips most of the POST tests . Maybe you can post a show mod and or sh ver , sh logg buff 1000 etc...
