it is not a good idea to connect a destination span port to another switch.

See URL: http://www.cisco.com/warp/customer/473/41.html#topic8-2

for an example of the consequences of doing that.

Since you have a cat5000 it is not possible configure remote SPAN. Remote SPAN is really the solution you are looking for.

More details on it is found at

URL: http://www.cisco.com/warp/customer/473/41.html#topic4-2

For now you'll have to just setup 2 sniffers on each switch until you get to upgrade the cat5000 to a cat6k or catalyst 4500.

Hi,

I'm a little confused (no 5000s in my network).

What does "RSPAN source is not supported in Catalyst 5000 family switches. RSPAN destination is shared with local egress sessions." mean?

See http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat6000/sw_5_4/config/span.htm#xtocid10.

Regards,

Milan
