I am in the process of extending my existing SAN to a new location. I have 6500 running native IOS at my two SAN locations. Is it nessary to have a SFM when connecting the Carrier GIGe handoff to my 6500?
Also another connection from this same switches will go to my 9216.
Thank You!

A SFM is not required with a supervisor II engine in the Catalyst 6500. The SFM (switch fabric module) with a supervisor II gives you the ability to use the switch fabric instead of the bus. The SFM can increase performance, but it is not required. The Sup720 has a SFM-capability built into the supervisor.

Richard is corect that u don't need SFM module if you have enough capacity. Here is more info abut SM modules
