Slipping PRI - Fix in sight?

We have a customer with a slipping T1 circuit that I can't seem to nail down.

It's not only slipping, please see the errors list below.

T1 1/0 is up.

Applique type is Channelized T1

Cablelength is short 133

Description: PSTN Facing PRI

No alarms detected.

alarm-trigger is not set

Version info Firmware: 20031216, FPGA: 11

Framing is ESF, Line Code is B8ZS, Clock Source Line Primary.

CRC Threshold is 320. Reported from firmware is 0.

As you can see it's not TOO dirty but it's enough that the users are noticing clicks and noise. Protocols are of course correct, provider has complete an end to end test of the circuit and they see no issues. VG200 gateway running 12.3.6 We have changed the entire gateway, upgraded IOS, changed WIC's.

Thoughts?

Hi,

Maybe you tried but, the main reason for the errors on the PRI interfaces is the clock source. Did you try to change the clock source for that PRI interface?

I would top Erdem by confirming the clock could be one of the sources of the problem.

also, check along the lines of the physical media:

- bad cabing

- any kind of inteference along the cables

you don't mention the IOS revision or hardware you are using, I say this because there was aproblem with AIM dsps in 2600s last year which was fixed by an IOS upgrade

The router is clocking off the line. The provided did an end to end test and saw no errors.

The commands you mentioned I know about on the 26xx platform, such as 2651xm, but for the VG200 those commands don't seem to exist (even though it is of course just a crippled 26xx)

Any other ideas?

have you tried increasing the cable length? This won't probably do much for you but...

Also, what else do you have in that VG200? Send us show diag. This must be one of those "telco's sending a signal that is too strog" cases.

What type of T1 module is in he VG200?

If the telco says they have tested the circuit and found no errors, then I would tend to agree. But here is what they tend to do. The extend a circuit from their central office to your location and install a NIU. They then connect a Bert tester to the circuit from the CO end, send an electronic signal to the NIU that loops the NIU. Then the conduct a Bert analysis of the circuit. This confirms the condition of the circuit from the CO to the NIU. What it doesn't do is check the output (or customer side of the NIU). I've found that the NIU can be faulty on the customer side or in some cases the NIU is not provisioned correctly and sends a signal way to strong. In either case you receive erros. What I would do is loop the far end of the circuit. If you have a CSU this can be as easy as looping the CSU, if no CSU then loop the end of the cable. If you terminated onto an RJ45 plug then just loop pins 1,2 to 4,5. Then call the telco back and have them conduct another test to confirm that the circuit is indeed running clean from the CO all the way to your end. Another thought came to mind here. You might also double check with the telco and confirm that the circuit is provisioned like you think it is (ESF and B8ZS)?. If you both aren't provisioned the same you will see what appears to be errors on the circuit.

The loopback was from the customer side. That's the odd thing, the circuit is extended to the premist by a fibre loop, on site there is a fibre loop converter that goes into the NIU unit, out of the NIU and into us.

You said you'd tried to find network clock commands on your vg200 but there weren't any. vg200 is a strange animal.

Check the clocking again (although it's a pri, and clocking is line, you never know), and also run a debug isdn q921 to see what is going on.

I am not too familar with the output results from the q921.
