when pinging from within a router to a interface, what would cause it to drop packets. Also, when pinging to the same interface from outside the router, no packets drop

hi

do clarify from which ip/interface u r trying to another interface ?with serial to another serial(WAN) or ehternet to serial ??

regds

Well, I telnetted into the router and ping a WAN interface, POS Interface...and from the telnet session I see packet loss when I ping the POS interface. But when outside the router I dont see packet loss to that interface and when I ping across the link to its remote side, I still dont see any packet loss. Only when I ping from within the router to that interface do I see packet loss.. Pardon me being redundant... thanks

I've seen this on routers with frame relay interfaces.

If it is a multipoint interface, you may need to map the IP to your own DLCI.

Let us know if it is frame relay or a multipoint type interface and we can dig up more details for you.

thanks

peter
