Ingress vs. Egress for QoS

Hello,

Can someone give me a "ducky, doggy, horsey" version of ingress vs. egress interfaces in relation to QoS on Cisco switches.

I think I understand it, but I'd just like clarification. I keep seeing that "QoS policing is supported on ingress interfaces, but not egress." (or vice versa). I'd just like to know what the differences are.

I'm assuming that ingress is packets recieved and egress is packets sent. If that's the case, why is it bad if ingress/egress is supported? It's not like it's separate physical interfaces, right?

Just looking for some clarification.

Thanks,

Dave

To the best of my knowledge, There is no specific interface as ingress or egress. The ingress interface means applying Qos for the packet coming inside to the physical interface and For egress, the packet exits through the physical interface .
