Idle url 7970 display

Level 4

I am using CCM 4.1.3 and deploying a background image for the 7970 phones.

I have the image displayed properly BUT at the botton of the 7970 screen, the last two lines are “Select Service…” and the bottom line is Update and Exit Buttons.

I need it to go back to Redial/New Call/CfwdAll buttons.

Can it do this with the idle url?

Please Help

Hi

You could probably change the code of the page referenced by your idle URL to have different buttons... but if you just want a backgroun image, why not just change the background as in this URL:

Aaron,

That document does not describe what you are supposed to place in the field

idle

for a 7970 phone.

Do you know what is supposed to be entered here?

Hi Neil,

This should get you started;

In the Idle field, enter the path http://IP_address_of_CallManager/CCMCIP/filename.xml.

Idle URL

URL of an XML service that the phone displays when the phone has not been used for the time specified in the Idle URL Time option. For example, you could use the Idle URL option and the Idle URL Timer option to display a stock quote or a calendar on the LCD screen when the phone has not been used for 5 minutes.

Idle URL Time

Number of seconds that the phone has not been used and no feature menu is open before the XML service specified in the Idle URL option is activated.

From this doc;

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/phones/ps379/products_administration_guide_chapter09186a00801d66b9.html#wp1091533

The Idle URL can be configured with one of these two methods:

Method 1:

Choose System > Enterprise Parameters so that the change is propagated to all of the phones from the Cisco CallManager Administration page.

In the URL Idle field, enter http://IP_address_of_CallManager/CCMCIP/filename.xml.

In the URL Idle Time field, enter any positive value in seconds.

The image appears on the window of the IP phone after the specified seconds, either after boot up or after it is idle for that long.

Update the settings and reset the IP phones.

Method 2:

Choose Device > Phone under the Cisco IP Phone configuration so that only this phone displays the graphics from the Cisco CallManager Administrator page.

Choose the phone on which you want to put the display.

In the Idle field, enter the path http://IP_address_of_CallManager/CCMCIP/filename.xml.

In the Idle Timer field, enter any positive value in seconds.

The image appears on the window of the IP phone after the specified seconds, either after boot up or after it is idle for that long.

Update the settings and reset the Cisco IP Phone.

Note: The pixels on the Cisco IP Phone are larger in size than those on a PC. Therefore, some of the pictures do not have a good resolution. The phone is not designed to emulate a web page.

Note: You can use the Idle URL in order to display distribution information such as weather forecast on the IP Phone LCD screen. From the CallManager administration window, choose System > Enterprise Parameters, then populate the fields URL Idle and URL Idle Time with the file which contains the information to be displayed and the idle time during which the information is displayed respectively. The file type that you populate in the URL Idle Parameter can be a script (.asp), or an XML file. When the phone is idle for the time specified in the URL Idle Time Parameter, the IP phone does an HTTP GET for the URL that you put in the URL Idle field.

From this excellent doc;

Creating Idle URL Using Graphics on Cisco IP Phone

Hope this helps!

Rob

Thanks for the help Rob.

Have already followed those two guides and it doesn't seem to happen for me.

May be version of CCM (4.2(3)sr1) or phone firmware (SCCP70.8-2-1S) and it isn't happy.

If I apply http://IP_address_of_CallManager/CCMCIP/filename.xml

i just get a box appear asking me to select a service, though none are listed, not sure where to go from here.

[edit]

using the sdk

converted the image from png to gif

used gif2cip to convert to xml file

placed that path inc file name to idle

set idletime to 15sec

restarted the tftp server & phone
