Hi all,

I want to limit the bandwith usage on my E1 to 1mb for any traffic.

Do i need to apply rate-limit command to input an output traffic both ?

what should be the values for bps burst, normal burst and excess burst in the rate-limit commands ??

All i need to do is restrict bandwith usage to 1mb.

Hi

If you want to apply the cap on both upload and download traffic then its required to apply it on both the directions.

Normal burst and the extended burst values are configured as mentioned below..

normal burst = r * 1byte/8bits * 1.5 seconds, where r is configured rate

extended burst = 2 * normal_burst

I would also suggest to check this link for more info in configuring the same.

It means my values would be smething like:

rate-limit input 1000000 187500 375000 exceed-action drop.

Wud this help me achieve my purpose ? I want to cap at exactly 1mb..no more.no less

It will cap at 1 MB no issues. What the normal and max burst do is take care of any bursty traffic.
