VTP pruning

It looks to me like trunking and pruning are 2 seperate things....

so I need to trunk some switch links... my supervisor would like me to use manual pruning as she read this was the preferred method.

Does this mean... by default when I trunk my link all vlans are placed on it... pruning appears to 'sit on top of this' so if I then prune only a subset of those vlans... won't my trunks then send unnecessary broadcasts to the vlans that I did NOT prune... but still are on the remote trunked switch???????

I have read many cisco articles but can't find one that answers that question.

Hello,

I am not sure if I totally understand your question: with VTP pruning, manual or global, no broadcast, multicast, or unknown unicast traffic is sent across the trunk if the downstream switch does not have an active port in the same VLAN as the VLAN that originated the traffic. Can you clarify your question a bit more ?

Regards,
