I am looking for some guideance on troubleshooting the following problem.
Catalst 6500 with a WS-SUP720-3B running 12.2(18)SXD4 code.
All ports setup as follows.
!
Interface gig X/Y
switchport mode access
switchport access vlan 1
spanning-tree portfast
no shut
!
When you connect client A to port 8/3
you start seeing the FCS error counter increase only on port 8/3.
When you remove client A form port 8/3 and move it to port 8/4 and then run the same test you do not see any FCS Errors on ports 8/3 or 8/4.
Then you take client B and place it in port 8/3 and run the same test you do not see any FCS Errors.
Then you remove client B from port 8/3 and place it in port 8/4 and then move client A back to port 8/3 the FCS Errors startup again.
My question is,why don't we see FCS Errors on any device that is attached to port 8/3 ?

Is 8/4 configured exactly the same ? The port 8/3 is setup as auto so you have to make sure the client you are using is also setup as auto , if it is hardcoded then you will get fcs errors.
