Hi,

Have some issues with a fax machines attached to Cisco ATAs (model = ATA186I2-A running OS 3.1.0 sccp), the devices cannot seem to transmit any number of pages sometimes. For example it will normally %80 of the time come up with a comm error, and the other %20 of the time it will send ok. Receive seems to be fine. I have enabled the ATAs for fax passthrough as per other discussions, and also on the H323 gateway, can anyone advise how to best troubleshoot this?

NB. connect mode set to 0x90000400 audio mode set to 0x00150015.

Just to add the fax machines have the numbers 8681-8684.

hi,

you have a E1 controller, check the clock status.

if you have any alarms or failure on the controller the fax transmission will be unreliably.

1) check the controller (show contrlloer e1)

2) set the command: network-clock-participate slot 2

3) network-clock-select 1 e1

greetings

Try adding fax protocol pass-through g711ulaw to your dial peers. Another thing to check is the mode used by the fax machines. ATAs only support passthrough at 14,400, so Super G3 fax machines, which use V34 up to 33,600 will fail. With some faxes you can explicitly configure G3 as the default mode, but in others you need to disable ECM which will turn off Super G3.

Hi,

After adding this command we have had no further issues, thanks for that!

Also, we have the same issues with an MGCP controller, the phones are at the same site as the ones before except their gateway to the PSTN is in the main site across the WAN, and thus via the H323 gateway mentioned earlier.

These faxes have different DNs, 75XX.

Any ideas?

Your config looks OK, but try taking out the t38 gateway force, you definitely don't need it.

With a fax call in progress do a show call active voice brief and a show voice call summary. This will tell you if the fax is being handled as fax passthrough, or as a voice call.

Are all voice calls G711 across the WAN link?

Hi,

I have had the same problem regarding fax on a ATA device and as msolak says, it may have to do with slips on the e1, this will not affect speech but definitly affect faxes.

example:

E1 0/0 is up.

Applique type is Channelized E1 - balanced

No alarms detected.

alarm-trigger is not set

Version info Firmware: 20030902, FPGA: 11

But are you running a ccm or ccme ?

There are some issues with ATA sccp and fax on ccme not working at all, but i guess youre using ccm ?
