Solved: 4507 SUP IV CPU

Hello,

I have a strange issue here. I have a 4507R switch with a Supervisor IV (with latest IOS). The supervisor's CPU has been hitting 50-60% on an average basis. the cpu is being utilised by a process :

29 17831136 69515333 256 7.03% 7.06% 7.18% 0 Cat4k Mgmt HiPri

30 139714216 32560470 4290 53.03% 53.43% 51.05% 0 Cat4k Mgmt LoPri

Cat 4k Mgmt LoPri takes most of the processing. I have seen this URL:

show platform health shows the following:

K2L2 Address Table R 2.00 28.26 12

by which this K2L2 process takes 28 %, which has been reserved 2 % in the CPU. I'm sure there are some unwanted traffic which causes this kind of CPU. The customer has 2 or 3 SAP servers, which is been accessed by close to 200 users. the traffic utilisation for SAP is only close to 300 MB.

anyone has faced such issues?

"K2L2 Address Table R" is a MAC learning process. Check for any MAC addresses flapping. If they are, you would see messages like "%C4K_EBM-4-HOSTFLAPPING:..". If you do, see if you have any STP loop or misconfigured servers for etherchannel.

The problem was with MAC address flapping.. Taken care of that and the CPU is now 15 % !!!
