cat 2950 drops packets w/ port security

Our office has several Catalyst 2950 switches with Port Security enabled on them. They are setup with an absolute aging time of 1 minute. I have observed these switches dropping a packet once every minute or so. If there is a period of inactivity, the first packet that is sent by the device on the port will be dropped. This is causing attempted TCP connections to the device to occasionally fail.

Can anyone explain why the switch may be dropping these packets?

Hi there,

Seems like you have run into a bug ...

http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/Support/Bugtool/onebug.pl?bugid=CSCec21652 (needs CCO-login)

"When port security is enabled, first few packet being sent on the port are dropped. Following

packets see no forwarding problems. The dropped packets are actually wrongly marked as "no

destination" and dropped."

There is no workaround and no bugfix in sight either... you should contact your supportcontractor and ask for a TAC-case to remedy this..
