I have to place order for a new 6500 switch. What are the different parts / modules that i need to order? Here is the requirement.

1. It will be used as access switch for 500 users.

2. It will also provide connection to 20 servers with gigabit cards.

3. Layer 3 routing

4. Load balancing module

5. firewall module

6. It will be connected to an existing 6500. What kind of cables and connectors are required for 10 gig/ 1 gig trunk link between two 6500.

7. redundant power supply

Is there any other consideration I need to be aware of.

Thanks..Neil

Hi

You need to think off about going on for the latest supervisor modules in the 6500 switch if possible with redudant supervisor modules.

Also do check this data sheet of 6500 which clearly talks about different chassis and the gig and ethernet ports they can support.

Following are the services modules which can fit onto 6500 series switches..

. Content services gateway

· CSM

· Firewall module

· IDS module

· IP Security (IPSec) VPN module

· Network analysis module

· Persistent storage device

· SSL module

· Wireless LAN services module

above mentioned link contains the details about the power supply , transceiver , WAN , IOS , CAT OS which you can choose off for 6500.

Also make sure about the fan tray , off late there has been some compatible issue in normal and high speed fan trays which makes your SUP 720 to go off in sleep mode.
