LACP vs ON in etherchannels

I know how to configure the etherchannels, but would like to know why LACP over just setting it ON manually. PAgP is not an option, but if there is a reason for that over the others it would be nice to know as well. I intend to have the etherchannels on between 3750s and 6506's and between two 6506's. I favor "manual ON" unless you have a better reason. thanks, Karen

It is always a good idea to negotiate a channel(PAGP or LACP) rather than forcing it to ON. This is because if for some reason, a channel cannot be brought up, if the channel would be torn down if it is being negotiated avoiding potential STP loops. It is in our best pratices document as well
